Our story
Learn about the cosmic drifts that led to the founding of Codernicus.
Mastering the craft
In medieval times, before one could open their own shop, they had to become masters of their craft through many years of practice. Throughout these years, one learns the ins and outs of the craft, guided by the experienced.
The story of Codernicus began the same way as that of medieval artisans: by climbing the ranks from intern to senior engineer. Maintaining legacy code. Experiencing production incidents. Architecting greenfield solutions. Making stack decisions.
From fintech to e-commerce, we wrote software in a variety of domains. We worked at startups and international companies. While we haven't seen it all, throughout the years, we have built up the courage to start the next chapter.
A few things we learned
- It's not about the tools, it's about the craft
- Maintainability is king
- Release early, release often
- The best code is the code that is never written
Launching our own products
Software engineers often fall into the trap of thinking they know everything better. In which direction the software should evolve, what it should look like, how it should be marketed, and so on.
We had the same thought and figured: How hard can it be to build software products from end to end?
Thus, we founded Codernicus. We originally envisioned it operating like a video game studio, where we could channel our creativity into products of our own design.
We developed a variety of products, but none of them were released. Instead, we were looking at a pivot...
Amoung others, we built
- A mobile app for couples to store their memories
- A platform for dog breeders and rescues to connect with dog lovers
- A platform to share and compare software benchmarks
Turning into a consulting
Launching successful software products is not just a matter of fun and engineering, but involves a variety of other disciplines. Disciplines with which our team was not familiar.
Hence, we decided to capitalize on our biggest strength instead: writing good software, quick.
And that's how Codernicus, the consulting firm, has come to be.
